Sewing at Pakuranga Baptist Kindergarten

Sewing at Pakuranga Baptist Kindergarten

Teachers come to early childhood with a myriad of experiences, interests, and career paths, all of which can inform and inspire their teaching practice.

Jacqui Lee and the teaching team at Pakuranga Kindergarten describe how they drew inspiration from teacher Danielle Rollo’s previous career in fashion design. By offering opportunities and bringing together ideas, the teachers inspired the children’s interest in design and sewing. This developed into the children and teachers working together to explore the possibilities of what they could sew. A curriculum focus on sewing, underpinned by design thinking, is now an integral part of their daily programme.
