Why do teachers go on trips outside their licenced premises? While there are many risks and potential hazards outside licenced spaces, as well as regulations to be followed, venturing beyond the centre to explore and engage with the local community can provide many valuable learning opportunities.

Jacqui and her teaching team at Pakuranga Baptist Kindergarten discuss how their Outdoor Explorers Programme has led to rich community engagement and varied learning opportunities for children. Through this programme, they aim to provide opportunities for risky play, pushing boundaries, and engaging in experiences with nature. The Outdoor Explorers Programme gives the children a chance to explore, challenge, and contribute in different, less constrained environments, while providing opportunities for the teachers to challenge themselves as well.
