This webinar explores the work undertaken by Pupuke kāhui ako to improve the continuity and coherence of literacy learning from early childhood education to Year 13. This has involved the development of a literacy roadmap which signals to teachers what students’ capabilities should be at a range of transition points. The initiative has enabled a greater understanding of the bigger picture of literacy development and enabled more transparency and communication among schools. The project has also inspired a wider range of teachers observing each other across schools with the common goal of improving literacy outcomes for all students in their kāhui ako. The webinar will provide practical details of the work undertaken and ideas for schools or kāhui ako that are keen to undertake a similar exercise.
The webinar features Jude Arbuthnot and Karl Jorgensen from Westlake Boys High School and Paula Snowball from Milford School.
