In our room, I started having the Whanāu area where their culture and identity about their own country can be seen with the greetings written in their own language. This enables each parent and whanāu to have a sense of belonginess and be welcomed in our learning environment. Aside from this, I also put up a space for their aspirations, dreams, goal settings for their child. This allows both of us teachers and parents to have a shared responsibilities about their children’s learning journey and development. Having them seen and read on our wall, it creates a partnership between teachers and parents. This also links to our code of teaching standards: commitment to parents and whanāu as well as our commitment to our profession.
